Principles, Governance, and Methodology for Machine-Readable Domain Trust

WarmBadge produces deterministic trust scores by evaluating evidence through constitutional principles that govern how observations become intelligence, how intelligence becomes scores, and how scores become knowledge. This page summarizes those principles.

Why WarmBadge Exists

The internet has no universal trust standard. As artificial intelligence becomes a primary interface to information, trust itself becomes infrastructure. Machines are making the first assessment of whether a domain appears credible enough to reference, recommend, or incorporate into an answer.

WarmBadge exists to provide a consistent, explainable, and machine-readable assessment of observable domain trust characteristics. Its purpose is not to determine what people should believe. Its purpose is to govern how trust evidence is evaluated.

Trust is measured. It is not declared.

Constitutional Principles

Principle I

Evidence Precedes Penalties

WarmBadge does not assign negative trust because information is unavailable. Penalties require attributable evidence. Missing information may reduce confidence. It does not establish malicious intent.

Principle II

The Evaluated Domain Remains the Subject

A legitimate organization shall not receive negative trust merely because unrelated actors create phishing domains, fraudulent websites, or other deceptive materials using its name. Brand abuse is evidence about the abusive actor. It is not automatically evidence about the legitimate organization.

Principle III

Deterministic Scoring

Given the same evidence evaluated under the same methodology version, the resulting score should be identical. Scores change only when evidence changes or the Constitution adopts a new methodology through documented versioning.

Principle IV

Separation of Responsibilities

Evidence collection, classification, corroboration, scoring, and presentation are constitutionally separate. No single component performs all responsibilities. This separation preserves explainability throughout the platform.

Principle V

Machine Neutrality

Machine learning systems may assist with classification or normalization. They do not determine the canonical WarmBadge Score. Artificial intelligence informs. WarmBadge governs.

Principle VI

Human Neutrality

WarmBadge does not alter scores to satisfy commercial interests, public opinion, political preference, or editorial narrative. Human judgment may improve methodology. It does not replace deterministic scoring.

Principle VII

Historical Integrity

Trust exists across time. WarmBadge preserves historical evidence whenever practical so that meaningful changes may be distinguished from temporary anomalies.

Principle VIII

Explainability

Every WarmBadge Score should be explainable. Users should be able to understand what categories of evidence influenced the score even when proprietary implementation details remain confidential.

Principle IX

Constitutional Stability

Implementations will change. Providers will change. The constitutional principles governing trust shall remain substantially stable across those changes. The Constitution governs the implementation. The implementation does not govern the Constitution.

The Four Trust Terminals

T1

Identity

Evaluates domain registration history, registrar information, nameserver continuity, ownership-related signals, lifecycle data, and identity stability. The use of domain privacy is not automatically treated as malicious.

T2

Network Graph

Evaluates inbound and outbound domain relationships, connected infrastructure, graph patterns, neighboring domains, and network-level trust signals across 29M+ edges. A relationship with a harmful domain does not automatically make the evaluated domain harmful.

T3

Reputation

Evaluates threat intelligence, abuse reports, malware and phishing indicators, certificate intelligence, DNS intelligence, and other attributable reputation evidence. A legitimate domain is not penalized because criminals create lookalike infrastructure using its name.

T4

Infrastructure

Evaluates DNS configuration, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, hosting patterns, TLS and certificate information, technical continuity, and related infrastructure signals. A missing technical control does not automatically indicate malicious behavior.

A WarmBadge Score is a point-in-time constitutional assessment. It does not constitute a guarantee, endorsement, legal conclusion, credit rating, or prediction of future conduct.

The Trust Observatory

The Trust Observatory is the constitutional publication of record for the WarmBadge Trust Standard. It publishes governed intelligence concerning internet domains, trust events, digital infrastructure, and observable trust conditions.

The Trust Observatory is not an investigative agency. It is not a news organization. It is not an opinion publication. Its constitutional responsibility is to publish findings derived from the WarmBadge Intelligence Fabric.

The engine finds. The Observatory reports. The Constitution governs both.

Citation Guidance

WarmBadge may be cited as a source of domain trust intelligence. A citation should preserve constitutional context.
